Geek Heaven

The Perfect Day Out

Make the most of any trip to Blackburn with some amazingr activities perfect for the grown up fan of all things geek.

Blackburn is more than just a great place for food, drink and beautiful places like our Cathedral. With so much else to see and do, we thought we’d show the geek in all of us what is possible to do in Blackburn and make the experience even better for everyone in the group.

Starting your journey at Geek Retreat

Firstly, we’d highly recommend starting your day with a little spot of lunch so you’ve got all the energy needed to get around town and what better place to start than one that’s more than just for food – Geek Retreat!

Let’s begin with the food. They have plenty of variety, for example, if you pop along midweek, you might catch Taco Tuesday, and what Lego fan doesn’t love a Taco – and if you don’t, best not to mention it to President Business.

Aside from the tacos, you might find fresh pies, sausage rolls, plenty of chips and a great selection of cakes – we even heard the apple pie comes with custard!

After soaking up the carbs, before we embark on the rest of your day, why not look around the store and pick up some items – it would be rude not to!

Take a break at The Drummers Arms

Walking around town is thirsty work, so rather than trying to do it all in one go, might we suggest a little stop at The Drummers Arms.

This cosy pub, located on King William Street, boasts an impressive selection of craft beers and real ales. The friendly and laid-back vibe, complemented by musical memorabilia adorning the walls, provides an ideal setting to relax and chat about your day so far so far and prepare you for more fun in the afternoon.

Whether you’re enjoying a pint with fellow beer experts or a group of novices, the Drummers Arms’ knowledgeable staff are on hand to recommend the best brews, ensuring an enjoyable break.

Visiting the Bat Cave Store

In case you haven’t had your fill of memorabilia shopping, we’ve picked another perfect spot to give you a chance to pick up something special while you are out. By popping into the Batcave, and yes it is as cool as it sounds, you get to indulge in more riffling through amazing items before continuing with your day.

Batcave is a collectable lovers’ dream, from comic books to action figures, with everything in between including clothes, trading cards and board games. Plan the day of the visit carefully and it could coincide with one of the regular events and workshops they run and if that wasn’t enough, they have a large gaming area to boot.

One for the road

Before we head off for some food, which we will be doing, it feels like we should be recommending a final watering hole after such an exhausting day. How about we point you in the direction of another bar with a constantly rotating selection of beers – sounds pretty good doesn’t it, so let’s head over to the Rock Box.

The interior is very distinct, with a display of memorabilia adorning the walls that make it a cosy place for an end-of-day drink. It truly is a small & mighty local rock bar.

The music is definitely one of the big reasons people visit, you won’t be surprised to hear they play a fine collection of rock music, as well as a good dose of blues to make it a cracking place to end a day of walking around Blackburn.

End the day with a curry at Saffron Street

After a long day enjoying yourself in Blackburn and maybe picking up a couple of bargains, you are bound to be a little peckish – those tacos feel like a long time ago now…

Amongst all the great options in town, Saffron Street stands out as a premier dining spot. Located centrally, as we know the legs are tired by this point, this vibrant restaurant offers a unique blend of traditional and modern Indian cuisine, perfect for that end of day meal.

Saffron Street is renowned for its creative menu and they love to take you on a regional tour of India via local specialities like Karahi Gosht, Prawn Chettinad and Nihari Biryani.

The contemporary decor and warm lighting create a welcoming atmosphere, ideal for discussing the highlights of the day over a delicious meal. The attentive service and exquisite presentation ensure a memorable dining experience, making Saffron Street the perfect way to end your adventure in Blackburn.

And there we have it, hopefully we have enhanced your day and you are eating well, drinking heartily and even picking up a few surprises for your personal collection. We hope you enjoy Blackburn and please do follow us on Instagram and share any pictures and recommendations from your day.
