Enjoying a Trip Around Blackburn

Fun for kids, grown ups and everyone in between with this list of activities and places to visit when you come to Blackburn.

We’d like to think any family would be super excited to visit Blackburn, so we thought we’d help make the day even better by making some suggestions of a few spots that will be perfect for any family.

A fine selection of food

Regardless of when you decide to come into town, food will be important, nobody wants to be walking around with hungry children (or Dads!) so why not go via The Market. We believe it’s the perfect start for a family because of the great variety of food options available.

The Market has just about every lunch option you could think of, and a few you wouldn’t. If you are looking for a sandwich, multiple stalls can fulfil your craving but if you want something a little heavier, then The Pepper Pot has a fine selection of pies you can take away.

If you fancy a little Eastern promise, you’ll find incredible street food, sushi or many of your favourite Chinese dishes. Italian? Check. More traditional? They have cafes and even a carvery to sit down and devour.

With plenty of other stalls to investigate, The Market is a great kick-off point or somewhere to drop in when the hunger strikes.

A spot of shopping

Whilst in town, it’s worth remembering that The Mall offers a perfect family-friendly destination for shopping or even just a useful break during the day. Located in the heart of Blackburn, The Mall boasts a variety of shops that cater to all ages, from popular high street brands to speciality shops.

You might pick up some new clothes, accessories, maybe some toys, and so much more. The Mall also provides numerous dining options, making it another useful spot for a meal break during your day.

With its convenient location and welcoming atmosphere, The Mall is an excellent choice for a family outing, combining shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Skating at Planet Ice

If you are looking to extend your family’s trip into town, then for an active and fun-filled family outing, Planet Ice is a fantastic stop during the day or in the evening. Located on Lower Audley Street, the ice rink is perfect for skaters of all skill levels, from beginners to experts – so Mum and Dad don’t need to feel left out!

Planet Ice offers a variety of sessions, including public skating, family sessions, and disco nights, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone. The sessions are long enough to keep everyone entertained but finish in plenty of time to ensure you can get around the rest of town.

Take a dive into the leisure centre

It’s not always just about shopping and eating at the many fine restaurants, sometimes you want to do something fun, so we thought we would suggest a visit on our itinerary that is a great activity for all the family.

The Blackburn leisure centre has a fantastic large pool and most importantly for the fun part of this activity – slides, lots of slides! Kids can see if they can beat the parents in a race to the bottom and parents can relax whilst the children are safely having fun.

Also, if the weather is not great, it’s an ideal indoor activity to hide in before heading back out into town.

A night at the movies

After a day of fun, shopping and eating, going to the cinema might well provide the perfect relaxing and entertaining way to end your family outing. Conveniently, in Blackburn, we have two cinemas, one in the centre of town, Reel Cinemas, and one just on the edge near the train station, Vue Cinemas.

Both cinemas offer a wide selection of the latest blockbusters and family-friendly films, with comfortable seating and state-of-the-art sound and projection systems, meaning families can enjoy an amazing viewing experience.

The cinemas also offer special family deals and matinee showings, making it an affordable option for a day out. Watching a movie might well be the perfect way to unwind and enjoy quality time together after your day out in Blackburn.

Turtle Bay for food at the end

I know we’ve already suggested one stop for food, but if you are looking for a proper meal to end the day, then we’d like to push you towards Turtle Bay, right next to the iconic Grandmother & Child statue.

The jerk pit produces an amazing Caribbean barbecue with options for all dietary needs or maybe you’ll choose a selection for the table from the small bites and sharing platters. But we picked Turtle Bay because of the wide selection for families, so how about we offer you West Indian Curries or soul food like Mac & Cheese three different ways? Still want more? How about a burger?

Whilst we would always recommend booking in advance, they do normally accept walk-ins, so if decide after your busy day that you all want to go for a Caribbean feast to end the day in style, pop along to Turtle Bay.

And there we have it, an action-packed day with options for the whole family. Blackburn is an amazing day out and hopefully, the above ideas will further enhance your family’s experience. We hope you enjoy visiting and please do follow us on Instagram and share any pictures and recommendations from your day.
