A Great Night Out

Great places to visit in the evening

Blackburn really comes alive at night, so we wanted to make sure you don’t miss any of the highlights we have to offer.

Whether you are looking for a quiet drink or a big night out with food and a show, Blackburn has many options to choose from.

Catching a Movie With Friends

We are very lucky in Blackburn to have two highly regarded cinemas, one in the centre of town, Reel Cinemas, and one just on the edge near the train station, Vue Cinemas.

Both cinemas offer a wide selection of the latest blockbusters and family-friendly films, with comfortable seating and state-of-the-art sound and projection systems, meaning friends and family can enjoy an amazing viewing experience. Between the two cinemas, you’ll never miss any film release and you might just catch a classic re-showing.

You can also grab a bite to eat at either cinema if you don’t want to venture further afield (although I promise we have some amazing options if you look below!), for example at Reel Cinema you’ll find a 16th Street concession selling great burgers.

Best Curries in the UK?

Who has the best curry venues in the country is a debate that we doubt anyone will definitively agree on, but we believe in Blackburn we can make our case!

Everyone will have a favourite but we thought we’d point our a few of the ones that we’d recommend you should try, either with a group of mates or as a cracking family night out.

Akbar’s started out in Bradford and has grown to have restaurants across the north as well as Birmingham and Glasgow, so the credentials are as good as the food, where they believe in the philosophy that anything is possible if you try hard enough, and based on their curries, they try very hard…

Alternatively, Saffron Street remains a popular venue in Blackburn, and is renowned for its creative menu, they love to take you on a regional tour of India via local specialities like Karahi Gosht, Prawn Chettinad and Nihari Biryani.

Catch a Show in Town

We are incredibly fortunate to have some great venues for catching a show. Everything from popular bands and comedians, through to west end shows or local artists.

Some of the local pubs (see below) showcase local bands every week, making for a cracking night out. For the bigger artists, then you should check out King George’s Hall or the Blackburn Empire Theatre, where you’ll also get to see some best comedians in the country when they are touring.

To stay up to date with the latest acts in town, then either check out the theatres websites or check out our ‘What’s On’ guide, which is up to date with all the latest events happening in Blackburn and the surrounding area.

Getting Thirsty?

If you are looking to grab a quick drink whilst visiting the cinema, theatre or having a meal out, then Blackburn has plenty of options for you to choose from. It’s also a great place to visit if you are just looking to spend a couple of quality hours with friends in the pub.

Everyone will have their own story about a favourite pub and the memories it evokes for them, and whilst we cannot hope to share all these amazing experiences, we can highlight a few of the central pubs that are popular for both the choice of drinks and atmosphere.

We did mention above that we love a pub that provides entertainment, so we thought we’d start with the Drummers Arms. This cosy pub, located on King William Street, boasts an impressive selection of craft beers and real ales. But the cherry on top for us is the plethora of local artists you can hear and the popular open mic night is a must attend for us.

Following that theme, Rock Bar is another ideal venue for those looking for a nice drink whilst listening to some great music. The name does give away that it loves a bit of rock music, but you’ll also hear plenty of blues if that’s your type of thing.

Getting a Little Peckish?

I know we’ve highlighted the wonderful curries available in town, but there are many more options in town if you are looking to have a romantic night out, food with friends or just grabbing a quick bite before heading on to one of the other locations for the night.

Any restaurant can serve up a meal, but The Firepit we serve you an experience you will never forget. Everything from ribs and juicy burgers right through to great vegetarian options. Sample the mouth-watering menu tonight.

If your tastes lean more towards a steak, then Toro’s, home of the sizzler, is the ideal venue in town. Highly regarded for it’s food, it is also one of a growing set of venues in Blackburn that’s unlicensed for those not wanting to drink.

For food & cocktails, Turtle Bay, right next to the iconic Grandmother & Child statue, might be your preferred destination. The jerk pit produces an amazing Caribbean barbecue with options for all dietary needs or maybe you’ll choose a selection for the table from the small bites and sharing platters.

End the Night With a Dessert?

One of the more popular things to do at the end of the day nowadays is heading for a lovely pudding! Fortunately we have a couple of great spots in town for just that thing.

Both Haute Dolci and Heavenly Desserts have a wide range of desserts and drinks that should cover whatever you are craving. Waffles? Of course and maybe we can tempt you to try a Croffle? Crepes and Milk cake are popular, as are Sundae Jars.

Don’t think we are excluding our Vegan friends, the selection is impressive, with over 20 different options across the different venues.

Finally, we have to suggest the fondue. You’ll get brownies, waffle pieces, fruit – all there for you to dip in a fountain of delicious chocolate, you know you deserve it.

We did mention there was a lot to do in the evening in Blackburn, hopefully now you believe us. This is just the tip of the iceberg, head in tonight and find the venue that’s just right for you.
